Appropriately named “Holy Terror”, Bronco 493 rolled off the assembly line in 1968 and was put into action in January 1969 as part of the VAL-4 Black Ponies. During that time, Holy Terror saw consistent active combat, providing close Air Support for the Navy SEALS. Like many of the Broncos at that time, they were under constant enemy fire. In fact, Holy Terror pilot Howard Hotch Hotchkiss was shot in the leg during one such mission; but managed to bring the Bronco back to base. A feat that ultimately earned him a Purple Heart.
