From Dream to Reality: First of Seven OV-10 Broncos Gets Ready to Take Flight

by Michael Jarvis | Jun 12, 2019

First of Seven OV-10 Broncos Gets Ready to Take Flight image

It’s been a heck of a journey, but the first of seven OV-10s that were rescued from an old Texas warehouse less than a year ago is now preparing to take flight after decades collecting dust. Fully restored to meticulous detail from what was once barely more than a frame, this rare and storied piece of American history is now gearing up for a new mission – to delight aircraft aficionados and history buffs at air shows across the country.

Appropriately named “Holy Terror”, Bronco 493 rolled off the assembly line in 1968 and was put into action in January 1969 as part of the VAL-4 Black Ponies. During that time, Holy Terror saw consistent active combat, providing close Air Support for the Navy SEALS. Like many of the Broncos at that time, they were under constant enemy fire. In fact, Holy Terror pilot Howard Hotch Hotchkiss was shot in the leg during one such mission; but managed to bring the Bronco back to base. A feat that ultimately earned him a Purple Heart.

Fast forward nearly 50 years, and Holy Terror is about to make history once again. This time as a show piece of American History. Beginning this summer, Holy Terror will start making the rounds at some of the country’s top Air Shows, until it finds a new owner.

So, make sure to check our website often for updates and appearance dates.
